Frequently Asked Questions LOGISTICS What is the class schedule for the Summer Writing Workshop?    The  Summer Writing Workshop  is offered in three sessions. Session 1 runs from June 28 to July 14, 2021. Session 2 runs from July 19 to August 4, 2021. Session 3 runs from August 9 – 25, 2021. Students can register for one, both, or all three sessions.     The G4 – 5 class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 07:00 PM – 08:00 PM (EDT). The G6 – 7 class meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM (EDT). The Grade 8 – 11 class meets Mondays, 6:30–8:30 PM (EDT).    Each RW unit spans three weeks and consists of 6 hours of classes. Each unit features an independent curriculum that focuses on honing reading comprehension and literary analysis skills, drafting, writing, and writing original essays, and much more. Learning how to read, write, and communicate well at an early age is essential to building better education experiences for children. Research has shown that learning and loving language early on in life has a positive impact on how children read, write, and even socialize with people. From birth to five years of age, children learn language by participating in back in forth interactions with the important adults in their lives (Hanan Centre, 2016) and having this responsive feedback is an essential ingredient in the learning process of every child. So why is it important for children to learn language at an early age?  The period from ages 2 to 7 are the most important years for a child’s brain development and language development. VSA Math Camp (Grades 3 – 5)

   The VSA Future  summer camp  is underway with a brand new virtual format. For Grades 3 to 5, each student will experience a 45-minute math class, 4 times a week.    In this condensed structure, teachers focus on only the most important concepts so that students can take away valuable skills and insights that will enable them to succeed in their future math endeavors.    For Grade 3, emphasis is placed on understanding the basics on a conceptual level. Classes begin with a speed test—a quick quiz that trains students to become fluent with the fundamental operations. Next, students take on a certain multiplication times table by solving sets of multiplication facts. While some skills need to be deeply conceptualized, others are best mastered through rote repetition learning. This is why our starting segment is designed to help our Grade 3 students feel comfortable working with numbers so that their raw computational capabilities are always on par with their critical thinking skills.
