VSA Math Camp (Pre-Algebra & Algebra)

Image
The  VSA Future summer camp  is underway with a brand new virtual format. Students enrolled in the Pre-Algebra and Algebra classes will experience a 45-minute math class, 4 times a week. Each class is designed to get the most out of the condensed format in order to build algebraic understandings that are crucial to future studies in mathematics, science, and more.    Classes begin with a short Speed Quiz that covers basic calculations and problem solving skills. This serves as a streamlined review tool for developing mastery over the fundamental skills that underlie Algebra. Next, our talented teachers take it away, teaching the lesson with an interactive presentation that encourages both participation and critical thinking.     Students are then provided with a selection of  practice problems  designed to emulate and extend the concepts taught during class. Once each of these problems have been reviewed, the students begin their independent practice. During this work time, we make s

Algebra And Pre-Algebra Program

Image
VSA Future is excited to offer our virtual  Algebra and Pre-Algebra  classes for the fall semester. This program is designed to provide a focused learning experience to develop mastery of algebraic concepts.     We use our specialized online resources to our advantage, leveraging the typical drawbacks of online learning to develop a program where students can receive individualized attention to help them excel and succeed. The VSA Advantage    VSA math classes focus on delivering the most important mathematical concepts in an intuitive way. By making use of cutting-edge technological resources, we provide a classroom environment that is interactive and engaging—all from the convenience of your own home. With our small class sizes (often not exceeding 12 students), VSA provides an individualized learning experience.     Unlike a public school setting where lagging students are at the mercy of a fixed curriculum, our classes are tailored to the student. If a concept is difficult, our

THE LEARNING PYRAMID: It’s About Stepping Down, Not Climbing Up

I kept reading over the textbook page again and again for a big test the next day, but everything just seemed to slip away from my mind. This was my first big high school test, and there was so much material I needed to learn on my own! The more I tried to read the notes, the more stressed I became about the test the next day. How do people do it? How do they decide to learn something on their own? How come no one taught me that I needed to do this on my own? This has been the question that has followed me my entire life, and it was not until I became an educator that I truly began to accurately understand the idea of learning.  It starts with the simple question of how do we learn? There are countless videos, people, and techniques that show up when you google this question. Want to know a math equation? There’s sure to be a TikTok dance that’ll teach you just the trick for acing that test tomorrow!  But learning—really learning something—can be a challenge, but one that we can over

VSA Future Hosts Global Speech With Systems Programming Analyst

Image
Each Friday during the Summer, VSA Future hosts their renowned Global Speech Series where campers are exposed to real-world events with exciting and engaging talks that broaden their perspective of the world. The goal of these classes is to provide students with an opportunity to interact with experts in all sorts of topics from global warming to the day-to-day life of a scientist. Students will be exposed to  concepts , ideas, and perspectives that are new and unfamiliar through age-appropriate talks by VSA Future’s expert panel of speakers which include lawyers, scientists, financial experts, programmers and so much more! The Global Speech Series will not only inspire children but also allow them to grow as empathetic citizens of the world. In a recent speech, children were able to engage with a Systems Programming Analyst who provided a vast insight into our increasingly digitalized world. They explained how so much of what we do is surrounded by code, whether we realize it or not

Why Are Children Addicted With Games

Image
The Addicted Generation Statistics say that the generation that’s currently in elementary school and middle school will be one of the safest generations of all times, physically. However, their mental well-being is of great concern—primarily due to their addiction to screens and video games. Will screen time be the downfall of the current generation? How Did This Happen? Before we dig into how to help children process and deal with this problem, we must understand how it happened. We must really figure out why some children are susceptible to this type of addiction and why others are less likely to be impacted by it. Spend any amount of time in front of a video game or a gaming app, and one will see that there is a total sense of control when playing these games. One can become fully absorbed in this sense of control. By using the controller or the phone, one can make the players in the game move faster, move slower, jump higher or any other of a thousand different moves—all dictated b

Conquering The Fear Of Public Speaking

Image
Rivers of sweat cascade out of your clammy palms, and droplets embellish your green face. Super glue denies permission for your lips to part, and awfully slimy thickness in your throat blocks desperate words from coming out. And worst of all, the fries and pizza you devoured for lunch today are holding a competition in your poor stomach to determine who is the master of black flips. There is no other feeling as disturbing or as distracting as the fear of public speaking . This fear challenges you and beats you. It is a red light on your road to success, and even more so a trash can that collects all your efforts. You fear because of judgment and you fear because of the high standards you hold for yourself at. You fear the embarrassment and you fear the mistakes you are so very sure are going to occur. And in these moments of pure panic and terror, the one truth is that you are not alone in your fear. The fear of public speaking, or to a more extreme level,   glossophobia , is the most
